Star Trek The Next Generation Season One

I wonder if, while he's under the influence, Geordi has double vision?

Interestingly, while Data searches the records for any references to showering fully clothed, on the screen for just an instant flashes up an image of a parrot. A strange thing to store in Starfleet records, methinks.

Incidentally, when Geordi wanders off, why can't the ship's sensors locate him? Why do they have to send out search parties? Maybe it's because everyone's too "intoxicated" to ask the sensors to find him.

When Data arrives at Tasha's quarters to take her to Sickbay, she tells him that she's wearing her exotic getup just for him. I think she must have been fibbing, because how would she have known that he (or indeed anybody) was coming to get her?

Is it just me, or did I really hear Troi address Riker as Bill instead of Will in Engineering?

Data's pratfall was absolutely inspired. Impeccable timing from a great comic actor. Speaking of good actors, what a shame that this is the only show in which we see MacDougall, who is played by the wonderful Brooke Bundy. This lady fit seamlessly in with the rest of the cast, apparently perfectly at home with the crew and sets. No mean feat, this. I would have liked to have seen more of her.

Curious that Wesley, the boy genius, doesn't notice that Geordi isn't wearing his comm. badge when he visits. I thought this kid was supposed to be sharp?

I can't say I approve of Troi's new look. Where are the legs? Where's the tumble-down hair? I can accept to a degree the argument that she has a serious function aboard and should dress appropriately, but from a televisual standpoint why play down one of your best assets? Why hire someone gorgeous and then dress her down?

Curious that when the chap sitting at Helm gets up and wanders off, Picard addresses him as "Conn". Later, when Geordi is at Helm, he is addressed as "Helm". I dunno, maybe the guy's name was Conn or something.

Is this a zip I see before me (on Beverly)? In Star Trek, the well known zip free zone?

Why didn't young Wesley also direct his, erm, repulsor ray against the oncoming rock as well as the other ship?

This show has come in for a lot of criticism on the grounds that to a degree it's a remake of a TOS episode. I'm not sure that this is justifiable myself. If you have a new team, who you want to be at ease with each other, you want them to be comfortable, what better way to break the ice than to throw a huge party and get them all drunk? And then invite us to watch? The crew now all know each other, they've seen each other with their trousers down (in some cases literally), they've seen each other's foibles and so, dear viewers, have we. So now we can all settle back and relax with each other, and off into the future we go. Not a bad idea, eh?
